March 2024 Luncheon

Bellingham Yacht Club

This month's speaker was Megan Adams, the Outreach Coordinator for the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA).  The NSEA's mission is to reverse the trend of declining salmon runs in Whatcom County by enhancing river, creek, and riparian habitat while education people of all ages on how to provide Pacific salmon and steelhead with the best chance of survival.  You can find out more information about this important local non-profit and the contributions it makes to our community by clicking on this link:  NSEA.  




February 2024 Luncheon

Bellingham Yacht Club

This month's speaker was Bob Curtis, a past president of the Bellingham Central Lions Club, who talked and showed a very informative video about the 100-year history of the Lions Club and the community services that it currently provides to Whatcom County.  Those services include the provision of free eye tests and glasses, the loan of durable medical equipment at no cost, and the distribution of thousands of books to local children, schools, and libraries; the club also played a major role in responding to the disastrous flood in the fall of 2021.

It’s that time of year again when evergreens sprout fairy lights, poinsettias bloom, and red ribbons compete with rosy cheeks! Come join your fellow N&N members for holiday good cheer, good food, and good fun! This year we will be delightfully entertained by the acoustic sounds of the Community Ukulele Group.

This year the luncheon will be a potluck. Yes, they are a little bit more work, but potlucks can be a source of culinary delight as one never knows what delicious surprises await...












November 2023 Luncheon

This month's speaker was Kathy Kuba, whose talk was on the Coast Salish indigenous people of our area.  Kathy has a B.A. in Education from the University of Missouri and an M.A. in Anthropology and Museology from the University of Washington.  She has worked in natural history museums creating programs and exhibits on cultural and scientific topics and has taught at Western Washington University.  Her talk is a condensation of a popular course originally presented as part of the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Western Washington University.




October 2023 Luncheon

David Mauro was this month's presenter. David is an avid mountain climber who has completed the "Seven Summits" by summitting the highest peak on each of the seven continents, which is considered a gold standard of mountaineering.  He discussed the physical and mental challenges of high altitude climbing.  The talk included a video and image presentation that kept the audience captivated.

Claire Johnston, Communications Director for the Whatcom Land Trust, was this month's presenter. The Whatcom Land Trust was founded in 1983 and works to preserve and protect wildlife habitat and scenic, agricultural, and open-space lands in Whatcom County for future generations by securing interests in land and promoting land stewardship.

Stephanie Sisson, the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Bellingham Food Bank, will speak at the May luncheon regarding the services that the food bank has provided to our community for over 50 years.
